LeAndra has specialized in geriatric care since 2007. She is certified in Alzheimer's and Dementia Care. Her responsibilities include overseeing new resident assessments, all resident cares, and the scheduling of the resident care team. LeAndra works closely with the families of residents ensuring the quality care of each individual resident here at New Dawn. 

 

LeAndra graduated at the top of her class in the Practical Nursing Program at Western Nebraska Community College.

Director of Health and Wellness Nereida is a graduate of the Anamarc School of Nursing. With a medical background that includes internal medicine and obstetrics, Nereida has found her calling in dementia based assisted living. Her goals are to exceed all industry standards and the expectations of residents and their families.

Her care focused philosophy is to always put the comfort and best interests of

residents first.

Trevor Matthews

Director of Dining Services

Trevor is a graduate of the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vermont.

His ten years of experience in the field includes four years in senior dining as well as country club and restaurant food preparation and managing college dining services.

His menus are seasonally based and seeks opportunities to use fresh local products wherever possible. Prior to culinary school, Trevor spent twelve years in the medical field. He uses his experiences in the two fields to create a better understanding of the effects of nutrition on disease processes.

Amanda Matthews

Assistant Executive Director

Amanda Matthews brings 15 years experience in providing compassionate care to the aging. Amanda earned her Health Care Administration Certificate from the New Hampshire Technical Institute. She holds an Assisted Living Manager’s License in the state of Colorado. Amanda became involved with the Alzheimer’s Associations and, through it, the Memories in the Making program. She received her certification in  this program in 2008. She started a similar program at New Dawn in 2011. Called “Timeless Memories”, the program encourages residents to paint, draw and express themselves in ways they may not have been able to do previously. Amanda brings to New Dawn

a passion for those who are affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia, and a passion to provide comprehensive care.  During her time away from New Dawn Amanda volunteers with a local Medical Explorer group that teaches First Aid and CPR to

the community.

Dr. Haftu K. Gebrehiwot, MD

Medical Director, Haftu K. Gebrehiwot, MD, is licensed in the states of Colorado, California and Utah. He holds a Board Certification from the American Board of Family Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Haftu also holds a Medical Instructor Certificate and has authored or co-authored three research papers. He is the founder and past president of the Andreas Make Foundation. Dr. Haftu takes a special interest in mental processes resulting in dementia.

 

 

Anella Smith, RN, MN, NP

Anella Smith has over 24 years nursing experience with older adults and over seven years as a Nurse Practitioner. She considers herself a family nurse practitioner specializing in geriatrics. She has served as a Director of Nursing in several nursing homes in the Denver metro area for 12 consecutive years. She has served the community participating on advisory boards for Metro State College and Regis University and participated in the selection committee for the Nightingale Awards. Ms. Smith also served on the Colorado Advisory Committee on transitioning from classroom to workplace and has conducted numerous training courses. Ms. Smith provides care and ongoing assessment for New Dawn residents. She speaks Spanish, French, and conversational Chinese.
